Wireless routers and other devices that connect to the internet have become increasingly important in the wake of a deadly attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, last year.
But the devices are still subject to strict firewalls and a patchwork of government and security requirements.
Al Jazeera spoke with the director of the Internet Policy and Technology Institute at the University of California at Berkeley, James C. Coyle, to understand how the devices work, and how they’re being updated to keep them safe.

The U.N. mission is a little bit like a public health agency, where the mission is very much a public service, he said.
We’ve got a couple of different missions, and we do different things and have different missions.
So, we do some research, we have some training, and our mission is to get the most out of the internet to prevent the spread of disease and terrorism.
We do a lot of technical work, as well as some human resources work.
We’re a bit of a research and development agency, but we’re also an information technology and public safety agency.
I think our job is to make sure the internet works properly and does what we want it to do.
And we also try to keep our systems up to date, because we know that the internet is going to be used in a lot more ways than it is now.
We want to ensure that we can continue to protect the internet in the future, Coyle said.
I’ve seen many people ask me if I’m worried about the security of the wireless routers and the Internet of Things, which are connected to the routers, and what that means.
Well, you’ve got to be very, very careful when you connect a Wi-Fi router to a device, he told Al Jazeera.
And the router will have some kind of security system in place.
And I think we have to be vigilant, especially now that we have these attacks.
So there’s a little more concern with that than you might think.
In the future it’s going to become a lot harder to use wireless devices.
And it’s a much more significant security risk because you’re going to have to physically connect to your router, which is what we’re trying to do now.
That’s going go up the chain.
You’re going back to the point where you’re connected to your device, or you’re connecting to an Internet-connected device, which could be the laptop, the cell phone, or even your home computer.
And that is a much, much more dangerous situation.
The next big problem that we’re seeing is that you can get a wireless device that is not connected to a router and then have it connect to any device in the house.
It’s a new threat.
It means that you’re able to connect to a home Wi-fi network that’s not connected and you’re actually connecting to any Wi-fis.
And in that scenario, you could be connected to any internet-connected home Wi
