NHL fans, players, and media have been clamoring for an update to NHL 16 for years.
Last week, the NHL announced the next major update for NHL 16, which was due to be delivered tomorrow (August 31) but has been delayed to September 21.
Now, according to a report from Forbes, a new mobile version of the game will be coming to the iOS and Android platforms later this month.
This is not the first time Forbes has reported on the potential launch of a new app for NHL players.
In 2013, the publication reported that a mobile version for NHL 13 would be coming soon, and a year later, Forbes published a lengthy report on the possibility of a mobile edition of NHL 16.
According to Forbes, this new mobile app will feature more than 30 new gameplay features and will also include a new scoreboard and stats.
The app will include a scoreboard that displays your team’s goals scored and blocked as well as a team’s “scoring chance” statistic, and the app will also feature a score and shot clock for a quick glance of how the game is playing out.
As for the NHL game itself, the article says the new app will be a “mobile-first” experience, which would be a big change from the current iOS and android versions of the title.
While the iOS app is still expected to be made available tomorrow, the Android app is also expected to come to the market this week.
The Forbes report says the NHL mobile app could be a real deal, and that the NHL will be launching a mobile-first version of their game sometime in September.
This will be the first official mobile version to feature the new scoreboard, stats, and score and shoot clock.
This new version of this game will include “a full suite of player stats” as well.
The NHL is not saying when the new mobile game will arrive, or how long it will take to get it ready for release, but Forbes notes that it may take “months or even years.”
We’ll be sure to let you know when we have more information on the new NHL mobile game.
