A network of the kind Ireland is famous for is to launch today, with a nationwide rollout planned.
The internet giant said it would offer unlimited internet to all homes and businesses in the country.
The Irish government is also launching a national internet plan for the next four years, covering up to 100 million homes and 500,000 businesses, the Government said.
“I am delighted to be announcing that we will be launching our national internet to provide all Irish citizens with the opportunity to access the world-class internet in their homes, offices and schools,” Minister for Communications Denis Naughten said.
“This is a landmark day for Ireland.
This will be the first nationwide network of its kind to be launched in Europe, and will give all of Ireland access to the world’s fastest, most reliable internet.”
The rollout will begin on the first Monday in May, and cover the country from the beginning of next year.
It will be rolled out across a range of services, including unlimited data plans for people with fixed-line connections, mobile hotspots and broadband services.
Users can sign up for free for the unlimited data plan, which will cover the first four months, and then pay €25 per month for a month of unlimited data.
However, the service will also include a 30 per cent discount, and some users will get a discount on their monthly bill, if they sign up at least two months before the plan goes live.
It also offers the ability to transfer data between devices.
The free data plan will be available on devices that are currently running Android 7.0 Nougat, which is currently the latest version of the OS.
